After my angioplasty was complete, I was waiting to be let go. There was a code blue a few rooms down. Things were not moving fast enough for me and I got very angry. Dot Taylor was my nurse and explained to me that she was sorry and that she was just with a family member of a code blue. She took my BP and it was 186/105. I was still angry and wanted to leave right then.
Dot told me that as my caregiver she couldn't just let me leave or at least she had to call the doctor. I told her that my BP is not that high unless I was pissed off, which I was, and I was leaving. Then she said, "What if it was your loved one, what would you have had me do?" I looked at my wife and realized what she was trying to tell me. I sat back on the bed.
Dot talked to me for a couple of minutes explaining the release forms, then took my BP, it was 145/92. She said she was going to get a bigger cuff and find me a wheelchair. She came back in with the bigger cuff and my BP was 125/86. She then took me downstairs. Before I got into my vehicle, Dot gave me a hug at which point I told her I was sorry for acting like a fool. She told me, "You have nothing to be sorry for." She never lost her composure, and only showed me love and treated me with respect. Thank you, Dot.
