August 2026 Honoree
Doug Lagge, RN
I have had surgery twice, once two years ago and again today, and by what I can only describe as incredible luck, I had Doug as my nurse both times. I truly believe that people like Doug are the reason awards like The DAISY Award exist.
From the very first moment, Doug has a rare and remarkable ability to turn fear into comfort. Surgery is never easy, but his presence alone brought a sense of calm and reassurance that I cannot fully put into words. He doesn’t just provide care; he creates an environment where you feel genuinely seen, heard, and safe. Doug goes far beyond what is expected of a nurse. He took the time to explain every step before providing care, making sure I was never left wondering or uneasy. His compassion is authentic, his kindness is constant, and his attention to detail is unmatched.
What truly sets him apart is his ability to connect his sense of humor, his warmth, and his understanding of patients as people, not just cases, which made all the difference. Having him as my nurse not once, but twice, showed me that this wasn’t luck; it’s who he is every single day. Doug didn’t just make my experiences better; he transformed them. In moments that could have been filled with anxiety and discomfort, he brought peace, confidence, and even moments of genuine laughter. Doug is not just an exceptional nurse; he is the very definition of extraordinary. He sets a standard of care that others can only aspire to.
