Doug consistently connects with his patients on a personal level and he makes them feel safe and secure, ensuring he always stays calm, which in turn eases the patient’s fears about being in the emergency department. One of the patients stated, “My nurse Doug connected with me on a personal level where I felt safe and he gave me encouragement. He was one step in front of my every need. He made me feel as if I was his only patient. He never made me feel like a pain when I used my call light button. He always had a smile when he entered my room. I want to personally thank this young man for his kindness to hunt me down food or anything I asked. He had no problem trying to attend to my every need, physical and emotional. Thank you Doug for making my time at the hospital as pleasant as possible.”

In the second nomination, the patient stated how Doug was calm, which in turn helped the patient and his family remain calm as well. The patient stated, “Doug was attentive, patient, empathetic, efficient, and calm. Because of the skills he displayed, we trusted him and calmed down too. It was very obvious from the onset of our visit that Doug possessed great nursing skills. His attention to detail was above scrutiny. His calmness gave me comfort in the middle of the storm!”
