Doug was nominated by the daughter of a patient who had an extended stay in our ED during the COVID pandemic due to no available inpatient beds. She complimented his calming and reassuring presence and was appreciative of the extra time he took to sit and talk with her to explain what was going on with her father's care. After leaving the ED, Doug continued to check on the family and took the time to ask about his life, hobbies, and other non-hospital subjects. She said, "during such a traumatic episode, he exemplified the skillful, compassionate care for the patient and family that I imagine the nursing community strives to achieve each and every day."
