One example of Doug's outstanding care that we will always stick with me is when Doug was caring for a patient with autism. This patient would call out for a loved one and wanted to be comforted, not understanding that she was in the hospital. This patient was scared and very uncomfortable in an unfamiliar place. This patient would immediately start smiling from ear-to-ear when she saw Doug. She always wanted Doug to spend time with her. As soon as Doug passed all his medication and completed his assessments on his 4 other patients, he went into her room to comfort her. While completing his charting, I witnessed Doug soothing the patient by singing to her back. He stayed by her side until she fell asleep. The patient calmed right down and was so comfortable with Doug. This was just one example of how he always goes above and beyond to make his patients as comfortable as he can while in the hospital. Doug consistently goes beyond his nursing duties for all his patients. He would search the hospital for a sandwich for a starving patient in fact, one time he could not find a sandwich so he gave the patient his own sandwich. Doug is one of the most compassionate nurses that we have had the pleasure to work alongside.
