The OR received a critical patient from ER who needed an emergent ex-lap. The patient was too critical to transfer out and CCU had no rooms available to admit post-op.
PACU on-call nurse, Dustin Engelbrecht, went above and beyond and was willing to hold the patient in PACU to ensure the patient could be cared for and not transferred. He also offered to take the patient to CCU to manage the patient there. Dustin was committed to making sure the patient was cared for and was willing to do whatever it took to do so. Dustin accepted the ventilated patient in PACU and with the help of Siri Fontenot, RN, and the OR team, held the patient until CCU could safely admit. Dustin often goes above and beyond to ensure that patients are taken care of and supports his team and other teams any way he can.
Siri Fontenot saw the critical situation and stayed with the on-call nurse to assist holding the patient in PACU. Siri did not have to be asked, she just did it because she wanted to help her team member and patient. Siri often goes above and beyond and stays late to help others. She shows true empathy and cares for the patients and the team. She never leaves her shift if others need help or there are still more patients to come out. She always stays, always volunteering by just assessing the need. She is a true team player and makes a difference every day.
