I witnessed Dustin Tomeo caring for a loved one whose family member was gravely ill. The family member requested a priest to say the last rights. Because it was in the middle of the night, we were unable to obtain a priest for the family member. Dustin informed the family member that he was not catholic, but he is a pastor and is willing to pray with them if that was ok. The family member agreed to allow Dustin to pray with them. It bought tears to my eyes to witness this interaction. In the Emergency room we are very busy and sometimes don't stop to think of the families and their pain, but Dustin did. He does this without expectation of anything in return. He truly embodies the spirit of The DAISY Award and what it represents to patients and families.
