We had a family of 5 who got into a car accident today totaling their only vehicle, and in that incident also lost both car seats for their 6-month-old and 2-year-old. When they came up for discharge Dustin Wells went the extra mile asking questions about their plans for car seats etc. and found out that they were on a severely fixed income and that if they privately paid to replace those seats they would be without money until the father's next paycheck. That one extra question that sometimes can feel uncomfortable to ask, “Will you guys be okay if you pay for this out of pocket?” let us know the deeper need they had.

Not only did they just lose their transportation, but they would not have been able to eat if we did not help them in locating some car seats and other resources. They honestly had planned on walking with the three kids to a family member's home that turned out to be over 10 miles away because they were not going to ask for help, though they truly needed it. Our Social Work Department can't always know who might need something, and Dustin's extra time and care for this family led us to really do some good on a difficult day for them.
