December 2025 Honoree
Dyann Duncan, RN
In the early morning, my client, her husband, and I (I’m a doula) arrived at L&D between 4 and 5 a.m. My client is a sexual assault survivor and knew that having doctors and nurses check her would be an issue.
Allison was so compassionate and sweet and let my client go at her own pace regarding her care. She reassured her repeatedly. She let my client build up the courage to try a check. Staring by touching her ankle and slowly working her way up my client’s leg. She sat quietly and helped talk my client through the whole thing for over an hour. Her grace and compassion are unbelievable.
Collectively we (client, nurses, and doula) decided that a C-section would be the best option to not continue to bring trauma into this joyous occasion. Allison stayed past her time to go home and was even willing to stay and go into the section with my client if that made her feel more comfortable.
Dyann, the nurse coming on shift, was also amazing and stepped in and filled the spot where Allison left off. They both served with care and compassion and made my clients’ delivery and stay the most rewarding.
They were kind and always asked if it was okay to touch before doing anything. They offered up lots of information and explained every detail to help keep my client calm.
Could not have asked for better nurses during the stay.
