I am so thankful that Dylan was working that shift on that morning. He was so calm and professional, and I knew he would not give up on my son, and he did not!
My son had surgery on his knee and tibia and was only supposed to have to stay one night in the hospital. After surgery, for approximately the next 14 hours, my son was at a level 10 in excruciating pain with constant muscle spasms in his leg until Dylan Bly came on shift at 7 AM. My son could not eat, sleep, rest, or even communicate well because of the level of pain he was having for hours. He was so exhausted from the pain. It was so hard to watch for hours. As soon as Dylan came on his shift and checked on him, he knew something was not right. He was genuinely distressed at the shape my son was in and set himself to figure it out. Dylan kept up with all the test results coming in, talked to multiple doctors and other nurses, and conducted research on looking for a medication to stop his spasms because nothing else was working. My son was on heavy IV meds every two hours, and still no relief. Once Dylan got the order from the doctor to try the medication, he personally talked with the pharmacist about the preparation of the medication. Once my son got his first dose, it had been almost 24 hours from the initial onset of spasms after surgery. It was a game-changer for my son! He had to have two doses, but by the time they were over, my son was finally able to rest and sleep. When he woke up, he was able to eat for the first time in days. I am so thankful that Dylan was working that shift on that morning. He was so calm and professional, and I knew he would not give up on my son, and he did not! He was doing more than just what his job required for my family. I sobbed tears of joy for my son's final relief from that pain. I believe with all my heart that Dylan should be recognized for his caring, compassion, persistence, and knowledge.
