Dylan was right there by our side as we waited each day for D to wake up.
Our 63-year-old brother D was life-flighted to St. George Regional Hospital in critical condition after being in a motorcycle accident. He was in a coma in the ICU unit. From his arrival, Dylan was by our brother's side. His bedside manner went beyond showing compassion for our brother. He treated each of us with respect and dignity. Dylan’s professional manner in the way he answered our questions helped to ease our overwhelming anxiousness over our brother’s condition.

Our brother started out with an induced coma. When they tried to take him out of it, he did not wake up. Dylan was right there by our side as we waited each day for D to wake up. After the neurosurgeon came in and explained the condition of D’s brain activity, it was Dylan that put us at ease as to what the outcome of our brother’s life would be. Upon further discussion, the family's decision was to make our brother D as comfortable as possible until we could go through the process of organ donation. Dylan’s first concern was D; continually checking on him and keeping him cleaned up using suction to clean out his lungs always with the gentlest care.

Dylan was also very empathetic to our family's emotions, always reassuring us, making us comfortable, and getting us whatever we needed, including snacks and water. Dylan greeted us and even made the effort to call us by name. He was very personal. On the day that our brother was going to be placed in “comfort care” and have the tubes removed as our emotions were all over the place, Dylan explained to us that this was a perfectly normal reaction. He encouraged us to gather the family to tell stories and share fond memories of D. We laughed and we cried. Dylan became part of our family. He is truly an example of a caring nurse who has gone above and beyond to care for our brother D and our family.

St. George Regional has demonstrated that they hire the most caring individuals. Dylan is a great representative of what a good hospital has to offer. Being from out of state it was reassuring to know that in our brother's final days he was cared about like he was the only patient in the hospital. Thank you for placing Dylan by our side. Our brother never woke up. He will be given the opportunity to donate his organs. We were able to say goodbye knowing he would continue to get cared about.
