In February I entered the UNC Heart & Vascular Hospital in Raleigh to have two cardiac ablation procedures. I brought my husband with me, and he was able to stay with me during the preparation phase. Then I was taken up to the floor where the procedure would be performed and left alone for what seemed like an hour. During that time with nothing but my thoughts and emotions to entertain myself, the worry and anxiety started creeping in. When my doctor came by to check on me and ask me how I was doing, I knew I could burst into tears at any moment. The doctor was incredibly calming, but I was definitely on edge.
Then came Nurse Ed Hollingsworth and he completely turned the moment around for me. He started cracking jokes and had me laughing from the moment he wheeled my bed into the procedure room until the very moment I was put under anesthesia. Then he was there with me in recovery. I so wish I had the opportunity to let him know personally he was truly a Godsend for me when I needed one the most. Ed put me in the absolute right frame of mind as I entered my procedure. I have no doubt Ed has been that light to many in my situation but there is no way I could not share my story.
