On several occasions, we've encountered families without means of transportation and Edgar has volunteered to pick up families to bring them in for interviews and drop them off afterward - in his own car.
I think everyone can agree, that to know Edgar is to love Edgar! He's such a joy to work with. However, I want to nominate him for the DAISY Award because of the experiences I have had working directly with him this term in Population Health.
The level of compassion he has for patients and family members is unmatched. We've been working on a public health project that involves interviewing terminally ill patients within our local Hispanic community. Edgar has gone above and beyond in helping these families access resources (which is technically not even a requirement in our project, but he just does it anyway - because he's an extraordinary person). Edgar is so accommodating to these families in need. What a saint!
Speaking with families impacted by terminal illness is not everyone's cup of tea, but Edgar's therapeutic interaction skills are so on point. Together, we've laughed, we've cried, we've prayed with these families and he truly is invested in these patients and their families. Lastly, I'd like to mention that Edgar has advocated for undocumented persons throughout this term, providing education, translation, respecting privacy, and curating valuable resources to enhance lives. I really can't say enough nice things about Edgar, but ultimately he's a model nursing student and all of us in the cohort should look up to him in terms of his high-quality patient care.
