We recently had to endure a situation no nurse wants to have to experience - coding and losing one of our own. The shift and code were extremely difficult for everyone, but with Edlyn's leadership and support, we were able to continue through it the best we all could.
Throughout the shift, Edlyn offered any support she could to the staff from running and grabbing us needed supplies in a timely manner, to running to other units for extra helping hands during the code, to calling in spiritual care and the managers for additional
emotional support for staff soon after the code ended.
While the loss was hard for Edlyn herself, she put her emotional needs aside to make sure her staff was supported, which I found extraordinary and admirable. She was the compassionate leader we needed in that moment, and there is no one else I would have wanted to work side by side with during such a difficult shift.
