May 2023 Honoree
Eduardo Cardona
This student, amidst the challenges of being in a long-term care facility with nurses who are unwilling to help students, remained to have a positive attitude in clinical. He remained respectful to all staff and continued to give care to his patients. A patient who was unmotivated & grumpy, had remained restricted to his bed with staff having given up with this patient. The student recognizing that the patient will benefit from ambulating/physical therapy had put the effort to develop rapport and trust with the patient. After years of no therapy, the patient became motivated and engaged with his therapy because of this student. The patient was looking forward to improving his condition and started to have a more positive outlook in life all because of this student. His peers were not happy being on a long-term care facility but this student set an example to make the best of the situation recognizing the lack of care in most LTC facilities and spearheading the care needed for these patients.
Thank you, Eduardo, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
