This was a true act of compassion that makes us proud of Shadyside nurses! The Clinician, in the MSICU, expressed her true gratitude to Edward Baitt for all he did for the unit during this difficult COVID time. Her comments are as follows:
First of all, Edward Baitt came to the COVID ICU to orient and care for these patients, when not many people are interested in working in this unit at this time. Today he helped care for a patient in a very sad, difficult, and emotional situation. Ed went above and beyond by using his own phone (covered and protected for in the room, then cleaned post being in the room) to allow this COVID positive patient to have a video call with her Pastor. This patient is nearing the end of life and this video call with her Pastor was necessary.
I always enjoy working with Ed Baitt, I have ever since meeting him while working in the float pool. He is so kind and compassionate. Ed truly cares for his patients and their families. Ed also cares about his team, even when he is working with a new team!
Edward Baitt deserves a pat on the back when social distancing is over. He is a tremendous nurse and a phenomenal human being. His act of kindness today was heartwarming.
