For almost two years, Mr. Yano has been part of the HIV-AIDS team that conducts HIV-AIDS lectures and offers HIV testing and counseling. It is the mandate of the DOH to offer HIV-AIDS lectures, testing, and counseling to all our Tuberculosis clients.
Aside from being a clinical nurse, Mr. Ervin Andrew A. Yano, RN was designated as the assistant TB DOTS Nurse of Camp Evangelista Station Hospital from 07 October 2016 to 30 September 2019. As such, he is responsible for the proper education, prevention, and treatment of clients with Tuberculosis. Furthermore, he is also currently assigned as the data encoder for the Integrated Tuberculosis Information System (ITIS) of the unit. It is the Department of Health's objective to have all Tuberculosis cases identified and properly documented so this country can achieve the ultimate goal of Tuberculosis elimination. It is with utmost pride that his unit declares 100% of the cases of Tuberculosis have been properly documented and reported in the online Tuberculosis reporting namely, the Integrated Tuberculosis Information System (ITIS). Due to the undoubtedly effective discharge of his additional duty, he was upheld to be the Nurse-in-Charge of TB DOTS in this unit last 01 October 2019.
As per the program merging of the Tuberculosis and HIV-AIDS treatment and prevention programs of the Department of Health, Nurse Ervin is also trained and currently an HIV-AIDS lecturer and counselor. For almost two years, he has been part of the HIV-AIDS team that conducts HIV-AIDS lectures and offers HIV testing and counseling. It is the mandate of the DOH to offer HIV-AIDS lectures, testing, and counseling to all our Tuberculosis clients. Camp Evangelista Station Hospital is one of the only two (2) DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment Short Course) providing institutions in Cagayan de Oro City to have attained 100% compliance with the mandate of DOH. This means that 100% of our Tuberculosis clients underwent HIV AIDS lecture, testing, and counseling. Being a DOTS- providing the facility of good standing, this unit received Integrated- DOTS Package from the Phil Business for Social Progress, a non-profit NGO in partnership with Philippine Coalition against TB. This package includes 1 unit of Desktop Computer, 1unit of Refrigerator, 1 unit of Computer Table, and an internet router for the exclusive use of the TB DOTS of this military treatment facility.
Furthermore, in line with unit advocacy to educate and spread awareness on HIV AIDS, along with the HIV- AIDS Team of this hospital, Mr. Yano has conducted lectures and information drive to almost Three Thousand Five Hundred (3,500) Military Officers, Enlisted Personnel, Candidate Soldier Applicants, civilians within the area of responsibility and selected clients. He was able to further advocate awareness on HIV AIDS to other post units and candidate soldier applicants and military personnel of 65IB, 9ID, and 10th RCDG respectively. These advocacy programs resulted in this unit's recognition as the 'Outstanding Service Provider CY 2019' in providing HIV and AIDS-related services by Tingug CDO.
All these initiatives which are above and beyond the regular duties and responsibilities of a Nurse did not go unrecognized as he was adjudged as the Model Civilian Human Resource of 4ID, PA for CY 2019 and was awarded during the 50th Founding Anniversary of 4ID on February 1, 2020, by no less than the Secretary of National Defense Delfin N Lorenzana. This recognition advanced to Higher Headquarters as he emerged victorious among the equally deserving Civilian Human Resources who were nominated to be the Model CHR of Philippine Army for CY 2019. He was recognized during the 123rd Founding Anniversary of the Philippine Army on 23 March 2020 in a simultaneous program at the Division Headquarters via Video Tele-Conference.
