Elaina Kretschmer provided expert care in the E.R. room. During the procedure of doing an I.V. on my 7-month-old little girl, I was astounded by her bright and uplifting personality. She was so gentle and sweet while performing tests on my little girl. Elaina repeatedly came in and out, not only to check on my little girl but my wife and I as well. To many doctors, we are just another patient, but she made us feel so much more than that.
For once, I was able to ask her to better define my daughter's diagnosis, which she did very well, and I was able to grasp and retain the knowledge she shared with me. All while being relaxed with her upbeat personality, even in a time of peril for my family. She had me at ease. I was very comfortable knowing she was taking care of my daughter. Most in our situation are not calm and collective, honestly most would be freaking out, but she continually reassured me that no matter what, everything was going to be okay. What got me is her personality and making me believe in her. I've never met someone that cares for her patients as if they were her own kids.
Above all else, I've seen Elaina a few times along with other nurses and she stands out to me because 7 hours later she remembered me and my little girl. She stopped me in concern for my daughter and asked me how everything was going. Having my wife and I been told anything by the doctors lets me know that this is more to her than a simple paycheck - her patients are her life.
There should be more nurses and doctors like Elaina to make parents feel as if their kids are getting the best treatment possible. Next time we are here, I will probably request her as a nurse because I know in her hands, my child's health and my sanity on my child's safety will be okay. I believe that's the most important thing, is to make sure the parents are also okay after. Absolutely an A+ attitude and great personality, Elaina deserves this DAISY Award more than ever!
