Elaine Drew, RN, CDCES
In my opinion, this DAISY award is long overdue!
I have seen so many DAISY celebrations over the past few years at Bridgton Hospital. All have carried the qualities worthy of the distinguished recognition which include providing compassionate care, fostering a patient and family centered experience, and going above and beyond for their patients.
Today’s DAISY nominee meets all of the criteria, but there are a couple of things that make this nurse a special standout in the crowd. A specific criterion named by the DAISY Foundation is that it creates a culture that empowers and supports all team members. The nurse we are honoring today ensures that others around them are acknowledged for their hard work and efforts while quietly standing by, enjoying seeing other nurses and team members be recognized. The second quality is this nurse’s passion for the work they do for the community they serve. At this point, I think we can share whom we are honoring today.
Elaine Drew has worked at Bridgton Hospital for almost 45 years. In a conversation not too long ago, Elaine shared with me how she pulled up on her motorcycle to see if Bridgton Hospital was hiring nurses. She was hired on the spot by none other than Winnie Moore herself.
Elaine has been a mentor and role model to so many of our team members over the years at all three hospitals, but with dedication and commitment always to Bridgton. So many of us here today have had the privilege of working with Elaine and the opportunity to learn from her over the years. Elaine has held many roles and currently provides expert diabetes education to our patients.
Elaine is being awarded the distinguished DAISY Award for her commitment to not one patient, but to the Bridgton Community and the many lives she has touched. Elaine can be found at the local community centers or food pantries on any given day, providing blood pressure screenings, diabetes education, and wellness screenings, to name a few. Wherever there is a community gathering for the greater good, you can find Elaine. She brings caring for the community to a whole new level.
