She offered guidance and support through the hardest part of this diagnosis. What really made Elaine shine was she made you feel as if you were her own family.
I have been a nurse for 33 years, specializing in cardiac/open heart and emergency nursing. My father developed a critical brain bleed from being on Eliquis. We opted to make my father a DNR/DNI and not transfer as he is 87. We wanted comfort care for him. We did not want an emergency craniotomy. We were admitted to med surg and Elaine Kennard was our nurse. Elaine was the absolute pinnacle of an exceptional nurse. She immediately corrected errors in the orders as the admitting doctor continued his Eliquis that caused the bleed and stopped it immediately. She was incredibly kind and supportive, as this was a devastating diagnosis. She was warm, and her compassion was off the charts. She offered guidance and support through the hardest part of this diagnosis. What really made Elaine shine was she made you feel as if you were her own family. She listened to me telling her all about my dad and his life and laughed at pictures I shared of him. She cared so much. From an experienced nurse of as long as 33 years, this compliment cannot be big enough. It means even more coming from one of your own, nurse to nurse. Keep shining, Elaine. Thank you.
