I woke up disoriented in tears. Nurse Elaine reassured me that everything was okay, I was just waking up from anesthesia and everything went fine. She offered me something to drink right away which I really appreciated because my mouth was so dry from not being able to eat or drink prior to surgery. She assured me that she would get my family and kindly asked for their names. I apologized for the crying and explained to her that I was traumatized from my last anesthesia and surgery experience. She gently placed her hand on me and said everything was going to be okay and that everything I was going through was a lot to deal with.

I cried asking her if she knew what happened to my baby because I had a D&C procedure and I hated to think that they just threw my baby away in the trash. She said, "Hold on let me find out for you." She returned with valuable information about where my baby’s remains were and where I could go to visit should I choose to do so. This helped my grieving process tremendously and I am grateful for her going above and beyond to get that information for me and reassure me.

Upon discharge, Elaine asked for the names of my two-year-old and four-year-old at home. I shared their names with her and she said they were beautiful names and that she would pray for my family and me. I nominate Nurse Elaine for going above and beyond. Elaine deals with these procedures every day but she didn’t make me feel that way at all. She treated me with much compassion and I needed just that on this horrible day. Thank you, Elaine.
