We came onto shift with report that it was going to be a difficult shift due to the nature of our patients. Elena was assigned to a critically ill patient. She was by her patient the entire shift with the exception of taking her lunch. She was caring, compassionate and truly gave 110% to care for her patient and the patient's family. I watched Elena try to come up with solutions as to why the patient had a fever and also gave the family a shoulder to cry on. Her calmness and kindness were felt throughout the shift. There was even a couple of moments that I mentioned to Elena that I was grateful that she was scheduled with me in the PICU. She said she was just honored to have the opportunity to care for this sick patient. She is an amazing person and a blessing to have in the PICU.
