Elena is one of the first people I think of when I consider the compassion, knowledge, ethical behavior, and integrity which the profession of nursing is known for.
I cannot think of anyone with more integrity than Elena. Her work ethic and organizational awareness makes her an exemplar to follow as a novice leader. She is a sensitive and caring leader who has mastered the balance of being compassionate towards her staff and colleagues while upholding the Northwell vision and values.
***
She has always encouraged our engagement. Our professional development and our consistent expansion of critical thinking is essential to Elena and our patients. She has always been supportive of continuing education and has accommodated our schedules so that we attend school. She maintains the just cultures but has always held us accountable and has emphasized on our own development of problem solving and innovation.
***
When we have had fundraisers in the past for the community, she has always been the first person to encourage the staff to participate as well as the first person to give her donations. She is always present, cheering us on, watching us grow. We are so fortunate to have such a strong, ethical, kind, leader and friend.
***
I’ve known Elena for 5 years. In that time, I saw how she works tirelessly to promote all of us in our roles to provide the best bedside care we can; a constant motivation to engage with and understand hospital policies and procedures. She patiently listens to us during staff briefings and takes our concerns to heart; she is sincere in her efforts to create an environment of trust, compassion, and respect.
***
She continuously encourages us to strive for professional development—she was the person who first encouraged me to pursue med-surg certification and introduced me to the championship model for which I am now a Diabetes champion.
