July 2026 Honoree
Elena Münch, RN
Our son was born extremely premature and weighing just 475 grams. Exactly two months after he was born, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go.
With this nomination, we would like to honour a nurse who supported us through one of the most difficult times of our lives. During the two months our son spent on the ward, she was by our side. She shared our hopes and fears and gave us strength, time and time again.
On the evening our son passed away, she was there for us not only in a professional capacity, but also on a deeply human level, in a way we will never forget. She held us in her arms, stayed with us in our grief and was not afraid to show her own emotions.
One moment that was especially moving for us was when we had to leave the ward for the final time without our son. She remained behind in the corridor, quietly standing by our side, and made us feel that we were not alone in that unimaginably painful moment.
Her compassion, warmth and sincere sympathy went far beyond anything one could expect. She did not simply care for our son; she saw and supported him as the small but strong human being he was.
To us, she is an outstanding example of what nursing truly means. We thank her from the bottom of our hearts.
