We had a situation in our Emergency Department, a 19 year old, 36 week pregnant patient, presented to our department in respiratory failure. She had to be intubated; she was on a Propofol drip and could not be sedated. She was grabbing the rails and jerking in the bed. It was requested that OB staff come down to the department to place her on a TOCO monitor. Not only did Elena come down to the ED to assist us in a critical situation she came with a positive and helpful attitude. She was encouraging and taught the staff how to work with the monitor. She consulted with the doctor and made suggestions to the ER staff to call anesthesia. The patient was then taken to the OR for an emergency c-section. Elena is a wonderful, knowledgeable, nonjudgmental nurse and the emergency room greatly appreciated her assistance. That night she was not only an angel to the patient but also to all of our staff in dealing with a difficult situation.
