Elidia is an amazing example of the consummate professional psychiatric nurse. She is always paying very careful attention to her patient's information and needs. She listens very carefully to the patients and is able to decipher the most confused and disoriented patient's words into a meaningful thought. Dementia patients are particularly difficult to communicate with because of their aphasia, but Elidia always takes the time to talk with them and listen to what they have to say, even if it doesn't seem to make any sense. From this she learns about the patient's feelings and anxieties and then sets about to help them cope. This level of compassion is amazing because the patients are so incredibly difficult to communicate with and reach. To do it over and over each day and continue to be so effective is truly amazing.
