Elis Lising, RN, showed comfort and compassionate guidance to a patient and his daughter throughout his last days in our hospital, even when she wasn't scheduled to work.

"When the day came to put my dad on comfort care Elis was off work, but somehow there she was. She appeared at just the right time, on her own time, to give me a hug. I could not believe it," her nominator wrote.

"Without her loving care and support, I don't know how I would have made it through this heart-wrenching time. Elis actually listened to me and, more importantly, heard me. She listened to my concerns and heard and consoled me. She answered my questions as a professional, but with such compassion. It was Elis who helped me to be strong enough to eventually come to the hard realization I knew I needed to when all others seemed to know that my dad would not come back to us, she did not impose her opinion on me, but rather allowed me to take the time I needed to come to that realization myself. I call her my angel nurse because that is what she is and was to me."
