Lis helps support patients and families through traumatic events and the grieving process. She prays with them, sits with them, comforts them, and offers gentle words of support and encouragement.
Clinical Skills:
Lis has proudly been a nurse for 45 years. She has been a Nursing Supervisor (House Supervisor) for several decades. The role of the House Supervisor wears many hats, and such requires clinical expertise, strong leadership skills, and compassion. Lis embodies Florence Nightingale’s principles of advocacy, environmental theory, and the importance of holistic care. Lis is a role model for excellence and compassionate care.

Compassionate Care:
One of the many roles a House Supervisor helps support is the Chaplain role. During the night or when a Chaplain is not available, Lis helps support patients and families through traumatic events and the grieving process. She prays with them, sits with them, comforts them, and offers gentle words of support and encouragement. She is known to assemble a comfort care cart on her own after hours when nutrition services is not available so that grieving families can have refreshments. Over her career tenure, Lis has used her own money to purchase coffee and or a meal numerous times for a visitor in need. She does this out of the kindness of her heart and has never expected anything in return. Outside of work, Lis cares deeply for the community. During the winter months she keeps bags of hand warmers, gloves, and neck warmers in her car to give to the homeless facing the elements. She also routinely visits homeless camps and treats individuals in need to a meal. Lis has said that everyone deserves a warm meal, and no one deserves to feel hunger.

Exemplary Service:
House Supervisors are not required to perform direct patient care, but this does not stop Lis from rolling up her sleeves and helping. While on rounds, she routinely answers call lights, helps patients to the bathroom when a floor is busy, picks up garbage, and tidies patients’ rooms and nursing units. Lis has established a positive rapport with her team. They know they can count on her to lead the team with wisdom, grace, and kindness. Lis has led the team through countless challenging situations, traumatic events, and disasters.

Continued Commitment:
Lis is committed to her role as House Supervisor and understands it is a vital role. She is extremely dependable, dedicated, and passionate about her role. She is always willing to be flexible and adjust her schedule to help the team. She recently injured her leg, which requires the use of a scooter while she heals, but did not let this stop her from working. Lis has never complained about her situation and continues to pick up extra shifts to support the team. Lis is always willing to answer the call of duty to cover a shift, often sacrificing her time off and rearranging her personal calendar to ensure the team is supported.

Note: This is Lis's 2nd DAISY Award!
