Elise is always compassionate in the care she provides for our patients and their families, however, Elise recently went above and beyond in every aspect in the care she provided for one patient. The patient had a particularly lengthy stay with some difficult decisions that needed to be made along the way and Elise spent a significant amount of time with the family and developed a great rapport with not only the patient but the patient's mother. Elise was exceedingly patient and thoughtful when it came to the care of this patient and always took the extra step to ensure that the patient was comfortable. Elise impressed me in the care she provided for this family because she not only did all of the required things, but went above and beyond to ensure she had her hair washed and combed, and a movie on the tv or whatever else it was that she needed.
Today, the patient was set to go home and Elise was so thoughtful in helping this patient and family celebrate the success of going home after their lengthy stay by having the staff who had cared for the patient sign a card. When I came by for a class today, I was surprised to see Elise here on her day off. Elise had come in to give the patient the card and her well wishes prior to being discharged and again went above and beyond, helping walk the patient to the door to wish her well. Elise is an extraordinary nurse who made such a positive impact in the care this patient received. Elise continues to impress me daily and I believe she strives to provide care according to our mission here at Carilion.
