My dad has been in the ICU for 11 days at the time of writing this. For 5 out of those 11 days, I was at college. When I finally arrived home, I felt so much anxiety and uncertainty. My dad had a breathing tube and so many wires connected to him, it was so difficult and frightening to see. His nurse, Sam, explained what everything was for and how it was all helping my dad. He not only took the time to explain my dad’s condition to my family, but he continued to entertain my dad and kept a smile on his face. Sam used all kinds of accents and gestures to put us at ease, and we’re ultimately grateful for them. My dad’s time in the ICU hasn’t ended yet, but we are so shocked and heartfelt by Sam’s dedication and care for our dad.
