Eliza actively takes the time to get to know her staff on a deeper level and works to elevate us up and help us find our potential.
At the recent Magnet conference, one of the speakers posted a definition of a leader by Brené Brown that ready stuck with me. She defines a leader as anyone who takes responsibility for finding the potential in people and processes and has the courage to develop that potential. Brené goes on to say that “Leadership is not about a title or the corner office. It’s about the willingness to step up, put yourself out there and lean into courage.” This definition describes who Eliza Sanchez is as a leader. There is nothing more that Eliza wants than to see her staff succeed. She actively takes the time to get to know her staff on a deeper level and works to elevate us up and help us find our potential. Eliza also fosters a culture of increasing knowledge (through regular education sessions), caring for both patients and each other’s safety, positive communication, and recognition on CPCU every day. She is our biggest cheerleader and fiercest advocate. But Eliza isn’t just our manager and leader, she routinely rolls up her sleeves and jumps right into the controlled chaos that is CPCU. I know that I can ALWAYS count on her for a boost or help turn or clean a patient. She’s never forgotten her roots as a staff nurse and she never acts like she’s above helping us. Eliza is the epitome of a leader and someone I look up to and aspire to be like. Eliza was born a true leader.
