Our daughter has vocal cord paralysis, so she has a tiny cry, and her heart rate isn’t indicative of being upset either. Her milk also has to be thickened due to the vocal cord, so it’s an hour and a half of work, and she eats every 3 hours. Let alone diapers, consoling, or getting her back to sleep. I’ve had almost zero sleep 2 nights in a row. Liz walked in 2 nights ago (I’m sure she took one look at me and realized I was on death's door) and said, "How can I help you get some sleep? I can’t pump for you, but I’ve done gel mix before If you show me how I can take the midnight and 3 a.m. feeds!" Liz was an answer to my tired pleading heart. I still had to pump, heart monitors, console, and put her binky back in. I slept in hour-long stretches instead of 20-30 minutes at a time. She warmed and mixed all of her oral feeds, and pumped the rest of her feeds at midnight, 3 and 6 am. I feel like I can function again! She’ll never know what she did for this tired soul.
