She brings a level of compassion and understanding that can't be taught; it comes from lived experience and genuine kindness.
During my stay at MUSC, I had the absolute privilege of being cared for by Elizabeth Boone, a nurse who quickly became one of the brightest parts of my hospital experience. From the moment she walked into my room, she carried a calm confidence that immediately made me feel safe and cared for. Elizabeth is originally from Brazil, and she shared a little bit about her family's journey and the challenges they faced before she came to the United States. Listening to her story while she worked was something I'll never forget. It gave me such appreciation not only for her as a nurse but also for her as a person. She brings a level of compassion and understanding that can't be taught; it comes from lived experience and genuine kindness.

Professionally, Elizabeth is one of the most thorough and safety-minded nurses I've ever met. She started each shift by checking every single IV-line, label, and dressing, replacing anything that wasn't perfect. She made sure every cap was clean and new, flushed each line on schedule, and kept everything neatly organized. Her attention to detail stood out to me because in many hospitals and some home health agencies, these small but vital safety steps are often overlooked. She made sure my Broviac Powerport line was sealed properly and that drainage bags were emptied and documented regularly.

What really makes Elizabeth special is how she balances that precision with genuine warmth. She never rushed through care, never treated me like a task on a list. She smiled, talked with me, and made sure I understood what was happening every step of the way. I could tell she truly wanted to help everyone she encountered, not because it was her job but because it's who she is. Elizabeth Boone is an incredible example of what nursing should be. Her compassion, attention to safety, and human connection make her a true role model. MUSC is lucky to have her, and I'm grateful I got the chance to be her patient.
