Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center DAISY Award recipient, Elizabeth Cannon, RN in our women's services department, not only took excellent care of her patient but also her patient's husband. Elizabeth's patient nominated her for this award because she provided exceptional clinical care for the patient and her new baby as well as the patient's husband who experienced a "widowmaker" heart attack (a 100% blockage in the left anterior descending artery) during the family's time at Fort Sanders Regional.
Knowing that the family's baby was in critical care and that there were health concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, Elizabeth worked with Fort Sanders Regional emergency staff to ensure the safest environment for the patient, her baby, and her husband. In the patient's nomination, she says, "I would not have been able to handle these situations if it were not for the care I received from not just Elizabeth, but from every staff member on the floor. I can never repay these women for saving my husband's life, but I can nominate them for an award that they deserve."
