Elizabeth (Liz) assumed care of a patient who was in a motor vehicle accident waiting for discharge instructions to go home. The first thing Liz did was pull a chair next to the patient's stretcher to introduce herself and establish a therapeutic relationship. This seemingly small action led to the patient feeling comfortable enough to confide in Liz that she was a victim of domestic violence. Liz immediately jumped to action and collaborated with MWHC hospital security, MPD, and hospital leadership to develop a safety plan. She worked with the patient to brainstorm a safe location away from her abuser and ultimately used HER OWN "points/miles" and credit card to buy this patient a train ticket to be with her family. Liz constantly goes above and beyond for her patients, and so this example is simply a drop of water in a bucket, but it's about time she receives the recognition she deserves.
