Elizabeth has a heart for patients with special needs. We recently had an autistic adult patient come through pre-op. He was anxious and agitated, and his primary nurse was having difficulty getting him to cooperate. Elizabeth immediately stepped in to help. She got him into a wheelchair, which helped calm him down and made him more cooperative. She pushed the patient around in the wheelchair for an hour or more, talking with him and keeping him distracted from his pending surgery. When it was time for her to go to lunch, she continued to stay on the unit to care for him. She pushed him back to the OR in the wheelchair so he would not be afraid. The patient's parents were so grateful for her help. They were so appreciative of the patient care that Elizabeth gave to their son. She is the type of nurse that any patient is blessed to have. She cares for all of her patients with the same level of respect and understanding. This story is an example of why Elizabeth Davison is a DAISY Nurse.
