I am writing to acknowledge my fellow co-worker, Elizabeth Elmaarouf, for her recent kindness and generosity with a patient in our department, Radiation Oncology.
Recently, a new patient came to our department. Liz took the patient back to complete his intake. She came out to the waiting room to have his wife come back with him, and she found that his wife was on the phone. She was upset and distraught with the news of her husband's diagnosis and the financial hardships of the upcoming holidays. She clearly expressed how this Christmas was not about buying gifts for her family, but having a family meal together and spending time with one another. While in the waiting room, she was reaching out to resources to assist her with providing a meal for her husband and her children. One resource suggested that she seek out a local soup kitchen, which upset her significantly and she began to cry. In that family's hour of need, Liz provided the financial resources required for that family to have a holiday meal, in their home, together.
The caring and compassion Liz showed this family is to be commended and should not go unrecognized. She was a true angel to this family during the holiday season and an answer to that family's prayer.
She is a role model of kindness and generosity of spirit, and I am proud to call her my co-worker and friend.
