Elizabeth Farmer works at ECU Health Bertie Hospital's inpatient department. There are so many stories about Elizabeth's compassionate care and clinical excellence that it is hard to pick one story. It is not uncommon to hear of something Elizabeth has done that is above and beyond that of a nurse. She provides impeccable patient care and is in tune with subtle changes in patient condition, keeping the hospitalist abreast of clinical concerns with the patient, often heading off potential emergent situations.

Not only is Elizabeth an excellent nurse clinically, but her compassion for her patients and their well-being is remarkable. For example, she took time after her shifts and on her days off to care for a patient's pet while he was hospitalized because he had no one to help. She has bought items for patients while hospitalized to help provide them comfort. When I round with Elizabeth's patients, they always rave about her kindness and compassion.

You see, Elizabeth not only cares for her patients, but she cares for her team as well. Elizabeth bought wind chimes for a team member who recently lost a pet because she knew her teammate was having a hard time (sharing that the gift was from the whole team). She has donated PTO to team members who needed additional time due to illness. Elizabeth selflessly gives to her patients and teammates alike. Elizabeth is an extraordinary nurse and we are fortunate to have her at ECU Health Bertie.
