Hope was attentive to L, answered all his questions, and comforted him when he woke up afraid after surgery.
My son L was sent to ECU Health Peds ED by his pediatrician for assessment of abdominal pain. Many hours later we would find ourselves in the OR undergoing an appendectomy. L is 13 years old and this appendectomy made his 5th abdominal surgery here at ECU Health by our amazing Peds surgery team. Needless to say that Tuesday was a very long day for L and us as his parents. The pain and multiple tests can make a 13 yr. old very irritated as he just wanted the pain to stop. Our visit was perfect in every way but especially when I was able to see L in the PACU and see him pain-free!
When I arrived to PACU I met a nurse named Hope Hardy who went above and beyond to comfort L and inform us of everything going on. She anticipated his needs before he even needed anything. She communicated with us every step of the way. Hope is so caring and patient with children and adults. PACU can be very hectic with patients coming and going but not once did she leave L's side. Hope was a resource to others around her answering questions from other nurses and doctors quite often.
Hope will never know what she did for us that day. She calmed our fears, educated us on post-op care, and calmed us down when we worried about going home the same day as surgery. Hope was attentive to L, answered all his questions, and comforted him when he woke up afraid after surgery. Hope is one of a kind and is the true meaning of what a nurse stands for. We will never forget her and we were so thankful for her on the day L had surgery. Thank you, Hope!
