Liz is our PCICU "den mother" and she is constantly showing her dedication to our unit, our staff and our patients through her hard work, easy rapport with people, fierce loyalty and generosity of spirit that knows no bounds. She always makes sure everyone is fed at staff meetings with her famous brownies or butterscotch banana bread. As a unit RNIII, she is an exemplary clinician, approachable leader as charge and education resource for new staff as preceptor. She strives to lead our unit to the goal of zero hospital acquired infections through her tireless work improving and innovating infection prevention policies on the unit; she has presented her infection prevention research findings and best practices at many prestigious conferences.
Liz's devotion to our unit and our patient population is nonpareil. The most recent instance of this is her inspiring care of our courageous little fighter and his sweet but devastated family. She gave them the best possible care and went above and beyond to comfort them. She collaborated with the care team to promote family-centered practice and create the best environment possible for managing their child's end of life needs. Liz's concern for this family wasn't solely confined to her inpatient duties. This family simply didn't have the means to pay for much; they certainly didn't have much in the way to cover any sort of funeral arrangements. When she discovered this and the family's palpable financial worry, Liz used her relationship with charitable resources within the community (Emerson Rose Heart Foundation) and reached out to them to cover all costs for funeral services. She worked hard to unload some of their burden so they could have their brief, peaceful time as a family with their little one during his final days.
Working with Liz is truly a joy and pleasure. She is a wonderful leader, beloved caregiver, tireless crusader for what is right and amazing friend to everyone she meets.
