Our newborn baby was transferred to Kentucky Children's Hospital from an outside hospital in very critical condition. He had been hypoxic for two days and had to eventually be intubated and in cardiogenic shock requiring dopamine before transport. Our baby had persistent pulmonary hypertension along with a PDA and PFO in his heart. He was very sick. Elizabeth was our nurse most days he was there. We sure could tell a difference when she wasn't around. My husband and I are both registered nurses and expected our son to get the care that we give to our patients. Elizabeth did that and so much more. She advocated for our son. She knew when our son was ready to be titrated down on his medications or the ventilator and she voiced these opinions to the physicians, very confidently. She knew exactly what was going on with our baby every second. We felt comfort in knowing she was there when we couldn't be. Elizabeth has a passion for nursing. They say when you're a nurse, every day you touch a life or a life will touch yours. I believe this statement to be true for Elizabeth. She sure touched our lives and helped us bring a healthy baby boy home. I'm sure our little one touched her life because she came to check on him once he got moved to the step down NICU.
