Elizabeth reached out to the administration and the leadership team about planning an "honor walk" for the staff to pay their respects and appreciation to the donor and his family, as he made his way to the OR for organ harvest.
A few months ago, we had a 26-year-old patient in our critical care unit who had a nonrecoverable brain injury. He was pronounced by the physicians to be brain dead and the family honored his wishes of donating his organs to others using the Donor Network in our region. We do not do a lot of organ donation in our facility where the patient is able to donate so many valuable organs to others in need. And our patient population is not often made up of such young patients.

Elizabeth reached out to the administration and the leadership team about planning an "honor walk" for the staff to pay their respects and appreciation to the donor and his family, as he made his way to the OR for organ harvest. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend but I heard a lot of positive feedback from staff and the Donor Network liaison regarding this event. The family expressed their appreciation for the gesture and were grateful to have the staff honor their son's gift. Elizabeth went above and beyond in facilitating the creation of this event. Her thoughtfulness brought comfort to the staff and family at such a time of sadness and loss.
