We can't describe in words all the ways that Liz is excellent. Liz was with us during a difficult time (the time before, during and after the passing of our little daughter) her compassion, love, care, empathy, and knowledge shined through the entire time. Liz was able to build a relationship with our daughter and her family that created a lifelong memory of comfort during our time of need.
With the relationship that Liz built with our daughter and our family, the connection between everyone brought peace and ease during our grim situation. Liz spoke to us on our level, respected our choices, supported our needs and demands, and took the extra effort to advocate for our daughter during her stay. Due to our unfortunate circumstances, Liz was able to spend a lot of one on one time with us and she was able to share laughs and smiles with us during joyful moments and tears with us during the sad moments. We were fortunate to be able to receive her one on one care and appreciated every moment that she provided us with attention. While this nomination brings recognition to the situation and shows others how Liz is an exceptional nurse, it is not able to describe the feeling of appreciation we have for her.
Our daughter was born with a rare chromosomal disorder called Trisomy 18 that ultimately led to her death. We came to CCHMC for palliative and end of life care. While this was a heartbreaking and difficult decision, we knew that this was the best choice and outcome for our daughter. She spent 2 days and nights here surrounded with love, hugs, support, and comfort care. Liz spent her long day shifts with us and devoted every moment of her shift to our daughter and us. Liz went above and beyond in every way imaginable. Liz showed her support with our decision and advocated for every need possible with palliative care. Liz stayed with us during our daughter's death and assured us that we were making the best decision and provided comfort measures to all of us involved in the process. When our time was done with our daughter, we knew that Liz would ensure that she would be cared for and handled with the love and support as we did. Our daughter was never alone and when our family was ready to leave, Liz stepped up and we handed her little body to hold and care for until she was finally removed from the floor. We can't explain the security and ease we felt placing her into Liz's arms for her to help perform her end of life care and memory making as we had requested even though we would no longer be there. Liz became a part of our life because of our daughter and we will always remember and be grateful of her, not only as nurse but as person and this why we believe that Liz is a true DAISY Nurse.
