May 2026 Honoree
Elizabeth Nerney
I am honored to recognize Elizabeth Nerney for the DAISY Award. She consistently exceeds expectations in every aspect of her practice. She combines clinical skill, critical thinking, and professionalism with a natural ability to connect with patients, families, and peers. Elizabeth approaches every situation with integrity, empathy, and a genuine commitment to doing what is right for her patients. Her leadership, initiative, and dedication make her a standout among her peers and a role model for the nursing profession.
Elizabeth demonstrates compassion through presence, adaptability, and a deep respect for individual needs. During her preceptorship, she cared for a non-verbal patient recovering from a stroke who was under correctional supervision, handcuffed to the bed with a guard present. In a busy unit, she noticed the patient had not been assisted with his meal. She paused, sat with him, and helped him eat, restoring a basic human dignity. Her care reflects an understanding that compassion is not only about what is done but also about how it is done, with patience, intention, and genuine empathy.
