Elizabeth Nowell went above and beyond to provide care to a patient recently discharged from the hospital. The patient was discharged without medications, and when Elizabeth arrived the following day, the wife of the patient made her aware of this. Obtaining the medications was not an easy task, as it was a Sunday, and the pharmacy closed earlier than usual. Elizabeth worked with the orthopedic surgeon's nurse to get prescriptions called into the hospital pharmacy. Elizabeth didn't stop there. She went to the hospital, waited for the prescriptions to be filled, picked up additional over-the-counter items that the patient needed, and brought them back to the home. "It was so much more than I have ever seen a nurse do," said the patient's wife.
"My husband is 81 and I am 76, with some health issues of my own. I felt as though I was also in her care," said the patient's wife. "I still can feel a sense of relief. Not only did she take care of business, but she did so with kindness, compassion, and calmness." Elizabeth provided exceptional care for this patient and his wife, anticipating their needs, and helping them wherever possible.
