I saw a patient today who had recently undergone surgery for ovarian cancer. Ellie had called this patient for a palliative care follow-up, and it happened to be on the patient’s birthday. Ellie mentioned ‘everyone deserves a cake on their birthday.’ The patient explained that she lived alone, and it had been snowing, hence no cake. A week later, the patient then goes to cardiology for a follow-up. The front desk PAR says, “I have something for you.” The patient, thinking it was more paperwork, really received a cake from Ellie, who just happened to remember her birthday. Ellie is extremely deserving of this award and goes above and beyond for her patients.
