I was the court-appointed guardian for my adult cousin, who was IDD. She choked in her home and ended up in ICU on a ventilator. Elizabeth was very supportive and held our hearts as well as our hands throughout this process! When we learned that I was not able to make R a DNR and the doctor could not even give the order to extubate without the Sedgwick County Court order, it was almost more than my family and I could bear. Furthermore, after speaking with the attorney in Wichita and learning that a court date would not be set for at least 7 days after the petition was filed, it was absolutely heart-wrenching! Elizabeth immediately went to work consulting legal and Google to find the required paperwork, writing the certifying physician letter, and repeatedly contacting the Sedgwick County Court Clerk for information and updates. She was able to get the court order prior to the attorney even filing the petition! My family and I appreciate her persistence and tenacity to not only get this done timely but being with us throughout the 10 days we were in the hospital, keeping us informed and checking in on us! I know what she did for us was her job but I do feel like she went above was expected of her and she also cared for us in a way that could never be included in any job description!
