Ellie held my hand when I needed it most
Right before Christmas my husband and I found out we were having a miscarriage. To say we were heartbroken would be an understatement. Unfortunately, I ended up needing a D&C.
I receive my OB care where I work, so knew that I would be going to my unit for the procedure. When we arrived I felt as if all of my knowledge and ability went out the window because I was full of fear and worry. Ellie noticed this fear and worry right away. Even though we have worked side by side for so many years, she took my nursing hat off for me and treated me as if I have never done any of this before. In that moment, she allowed me to be a patient and that was everything I needed. She walked my husband and me step by step through the process to make sure we both felt ready. Ellie held my hand when I needed it most and played music for me as I went to sleep. I will never be able to thank her enough for being such an amazing nurse and for giving us the strength we needed to get through that day.
I have seen her provide this for so many families over the years. Helping people through loss in the field we work in is especially hard, but she never backs down from helping patients and families while they grieve. Ellie’s strength and compassion are not something you come by every day.
