She was calm and reassuring as she redirected the staff to complete the competency in a new way. She was able to show compassion for that nurse that day in the way she engaged her in conversation.
I had the pleasure of participating in a competency fair recently with this nurse educator. She not only put on an amazing event for her unit’s staff, but the way she did it exemplified HCA’s values in how she interacted with all members of staff, including other educators and unit leaders. She is encouraging and patient with her learners, bringing her expertise and enthusiasm to her work. She had one learner who was clearly having a hard day and was expressing frustration with the competency activity. She was calm and reassuring as she redirected the staff to complete the competency in a new way. She was able to show compassion for that nurse that day in the way she engaged her in conversation.
That day, this nurse educator also went above and beyond to collaborate with and support leaders outside of her specialty. She coordinated supplies, additional educators, and logistics to ensure the fair went well for both the Women’s units and NICU. She saw a need and filled that void, to the betterment of the units and their staff.
Whenever I engage with this nurse educator, she is always uplifting, professional, and a great team member.
