Lizzie continued to show outstanding compassion to this patient by offering to drive this patient's breast milk to her husband and family in the middle of a snowstorm after her shift finished at 3:00 AM.
Lizzie was working for a patient on our unit who had been dealing with so much in her stay: a complicated delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, postpartum preeclampsia, retained products - all with a preterm infant. The patient was stuck in our Department alone for hours as she continued getting required testing and consults. Her husband was stuck at home with their infant and three other children - in the middle of a snowstorm no less.
Lizzie consistently went above and beyond to provide the necessary medical care for this patient while also supporting her emotionally. Moreover, this patient lamented to Lizzie that her husband had no more formula at home for their infant and she was stuck in the Emergency Department with no way to transport her breast milk home. Lizzie continued to show outstanding compassion to this patient by offering to drive this patient's breast milk to her husband and family in the middle of a snowstorm after her shift finished at 3:00 AM. Lizzie truly saved the day for this patient and her family and she inspires me to be a better nurse and person every day.
